Rhodes with Kids

Rhodes combines the highest density of family all-inclusive resorts in Greece with one of the best-preserved medieval walled towns in Europe. The east coast has the calm, sandy beaches families want; the west is windier and better suited to older children. The island is compact enough that the old town, Lindos and a water park are all day trips from a single base.

Why Rhodes works with children

  • The largest choice of family resorts

All-inclusive hotels with kids' clubs and water slides line the east coast.

  • A walled medieval city

The old town is inhabited, walkable and genuinely impressive to children.

  • Calm east-coast swimming

Sheltered sandy bays, in contrast with the windy west coast.

  • One of the longest seasons

Reliable sun from May through October.

Where to stay

Best areas in Rhodes for families

3 areas cover most trips here; the difference is mainly resorts and water parks versus sightseeing bases.
  • Faliraki & Kallithea

Best for resorts and water parks

The main family strip, with the biggest hotels and the island's water park.

  • Lindos

Best for scenery and a short stay

A whitewashed village below an acropolis, beautiful but steep and hard work with a pushchair.

  • Rhodes Town

    Best for sightseeing bases

Next to the medieval walls, with beaches on both sides and the ferry port.

Getting around Rhodes

Buses run reliably along the east coast between the resorts, the town and Lindos. A car is useful for the quieter southern beaches but not necessary for a resort week.

Rhodes tips for families

  • With kids

Lindos acropolis is a steep climb

The path up is stepped, uneven and fully exposed. Go early, take water, and skip it entirely with a pushchair.

  • When to go

The west coast is the windy side

Good for windsurfing, less good for small children swimming. East-coast beaches are calmer on the same day.

Rhodes with kids: common questions

Is Rhodes good for toddlers?
The east-coast beaches are sheltered and sandy with gradual entry, and the resort strip is built around families. The old town's cobbles and Lindos's steps are the awkward parts with a pushchair.
