Paphos with Kids

Paphos is the western resort base, and the most balanced choice on the island for families who want more than a pool. The town itself holds a UNESCO-listed archaeological park with exceptionally well-preserved Roman mosaics, the beaches north at Coral Bay are sheltered and sandy, and the wild Akamas peninsula begins 30 minutes up the coast. The airport is 15 minutes away, which matters with tired children.

Why Paphos works with children

  • Sheltered sandy bays

Coral Bay and the smaller coves north of town have calm, gradual entry.

  • Roman mosaics you can walk over

The archaeological park is open-air and compact enough for a short visit.

  • A 15-minute airport transfer

Paphos airport is the closest transfer of any Cypriot resort area.

  • The Akamas peninsula nearby

Sea caves, the Blue Lagoon and boat trips half an hour up the coast.

Where to stay

Best areas in Paphos for families

3 areas cover most trips here; the difference is mainly beach-first families versus quieter stays.
  • Coral Bay

    Best for beach-first families

The best sandy swimming in the area, with a strip of restaurants and a short bus ride into town.

  • Kato Paphos (harbour)

Best for resorts with sights on the doorstep

Where most large hotels sit, next to the harbour and the archaeological park.

  • Latchi / Polis

    Best for quieter stays

Smaller-scale and calmer, at the edge of the Akamas, with fewer large resorts.

Family hotel picks in Paphos

  • Paphos — all-inclusive family resorts
    Kato Paphos / Coral BayMid-range

    Paphos — all-inclusive family resorts

The standard Cyprus family product: pools with slides, a kids' club, family rooms and food included, with the beach and the archaeological park close by.

    • Multiple pools, usually including a children's pool with slides
    • Kids' club and evening entertainment
    • Family rooms and interconnecting doubles as standard
    • 15-minute transfer from Paphos airport

    Fitting a family in

Family rooms sleeping four are the norm. Check whether a sofa bed counts towards the stated occupancy.

Watch out. All-inclusive packages differ sharply on à la carte restaurants, branded drinks and kids' club hours. Compare inclusions, not just the headline rate.

  • Coral Bay — apartments near the sand
    Coral BayBudget

Coral Bay — apartments near the sand

Cheaper than the big resorts, with a kitchen and the best sandy beach in the area within walking distance.

    • Walking distance to Coral Bay beach
    • Kitchen for breakfasts and snacks
    • Restaurant strip on the doorstep

    Fitting a family in

Two-bedroom apartments are widely available and well below resort prices for the same occupancy.

Watch out. Fewer on-site facilities: no kids' club, and pools are shared and small.

Getting around Paphos

Local buses connect Coral Bay, Kato Paphos and the town centre reasonably well. A car is worth having for the Akamas, the Troodos foothills and the mountain villages.

Paphos tips for families

  • When to go

    Visit the archaeological park early

The site is open-air with very little shade. Before 10:00 or after 16:00 is the difference between an enjoyable hour and a difficult one.

  • With kids

Boat trips leave from the harbour

Half-day trips to the sea caves and the Blue Lagoon are the standard excursion. Smaller boats are better with children than the large party cruises.

Paphos with kids: common questions

Is Paphos or Protaras better for families?
Protaras has the shallowest, calmest beaches and suits toddlers best. Paphos has more to do beyond the beach and a much shorter airport transfer, which makes it the better all-round base for a week.
How many days do you need in Paphos?
A week is the standard. Five days works if you are mainly at the hotel; ten allows several day trips without rushing.
