Protaras with Kids

Protaras sits on the south-eastern corner of the island and has the gentlest swimming in Cyprus: a run of shallow, sheltered, fine-sand bays of which Fig Tree Bay is the best known. It is quieter and more family-oriented than neighbouring Ayia Napa, which is a short drive away when older children want more going on. The trade-off is a longer transfer from either airport, around 45–60 minutes from Larnaca.

Why Protaras works with children

  • Shallow water a long way out

Gradual sandy entry makes it unusually easy with toddlers and non-swimmers.

  • Quieter than Ayia Napa

Family-oriented rather than nightlife-driven, while still ten minutes away by car.

  • Water parks nearby

Two large water parks are within a short drive.

Protaras with kids: common questions

Is Protaras suitable for toddlers?
It is among the best Mediterranean choices for toddlers. Fig Tree Bay and the neighbouring coves are shallow, sheltered and lifeguarded, with hotels directly behind the sand.
Protaras or Paphos with kids?
Protaras for the swimming: Fig Tree Bay and the coves around it are the shallowest, calmest beaches in Cyprus, which is what matters most with toddlers. Paphos answers with a 15-minute airport transfer — against 45–60 minutes from Larnaca to Protaras — and more to do beyond the beach, from the Roman mosaics to the Akamas boat trips.
